T&A HiFi CD1210R CD Player
Quote T&A:
"The CD 1210 R is the smallest CD player model in the T+A range. As in the other CD players, a freely programmable signal processor (DSP) is used. A DSP can process digital signals at will; therefore, better oversampling is achieved than would be possible with conventional standard chips. Previous oversampling filters are trimmed to the smoothest possible frequency response without consideration of the time domain behavior (transient response). Here one accepts long pre- and post oscillations, which can strongly deform the musical events, especially impulses. There are now filters, so-called polynomial filters, which show a perfect impulse response. Unfortunately, these filters have a slight treble drop at 20kHz. In the CD 1210 R, a particular class of these filters is used: the BEZIER polynomial filters developed by T+A, which are combined with an IIR filter in a three-stage oversampling process. The result is a filter that produces no pre-echoes. The human ear is particularly sensitive to pre-echoes, since on the one hand they do not occur in nature, and on the other hand they are not masked by the main signal like post-echoes. In addition, the filter has a smooth frequency response, which is considerably better than other polynomial filters (e.g. cubic
splines). Since such an elaborate filter cannot be bought ready-made, a digital signal processor is used in the CD 1210 R. The signal processor is freely programmable. This freely programmable signal processor means that the CD 1210 R is not limited to a single filter. Therefore, five different filter types with different sound characters are available - from the classic long FIR filter to the short FIR filter to the BEZIER filter. These filters can be switched via a button on the front of the unit.
