T+A described this product in its brochures as follows:

"The CD 1200 R is the smallest CD player model in the T+A range. As in the other CD players, a freely programmable signal processor (DSP) is used. A DSP can process digital signals as required; therefore, better oversampling is achieved than would be possible with conventional standard chips. Previous oversampling filters are trimmed for the smoothest possible frequency response without taking the time domain behavior (transient response) into account. This means accepting long pre- and post-swings, which can strongly distort the music, especially impulses. The CD 1200 R uses a specific class of these filters. The filter does not produce any pre-echoes. The human ear is particularly sensitive to pre-echoes because, on the one hand, they do not occur in nature and, on the other, they are not masked by the main signal in the same way as post-echoes. In addition, the filter also has a smooth frequency response, which is considerably better than that of other polynomial filters."
